for the love
of your dog
'our dogs may
not be our whole life, but they make our lives whole'
|
Feeding your dog a balanced,
all natural, fresh food diet, is now as convenient as serving a bowl of
kibble. CANINE LIFE is offered three different ways, it's your
choice. The most convenient way CANINE LIFE is offered, is as a
complete diet, in the form of muffins. All you need to do is break up the
muffins and serve. Refer to the section
How does Canine Life come prepared?
for more information on the
other two choices.
CANINE life is based on the
National Research Council's (NRC)
nutritional
requirements for dogs, and has been developed
as a hypoallergenic formula.
Switching your dog to CANINE LIFE is
very simple. Simply stop feeding the food you are currently using one day, and start feeding
CANINE LIFE the next. There is no need to worry about phasing in our
diet, as is the case with some other diets.

CANINE LIFE recommends the addition of an
Omega 3 fatty acid supplement, to your dog's daily diet, e.g., wild salmon oil,
which is available through The Skye's The Limit, your retailer, or most health food stores.
Refer to our Canine Life Ingredients page, under Essential
Fatty Acids (EFA) for more info.
How does CANINE LIFE
come prepared?
CANINE LIFE is baked in muffin tins, and two of the three preparation
methods are in the form of muffins. You have a choice as to how you want
CANINE LIFE prepared, and we offer you three convenient ways to do this.
Complete Muffin:
Includes all ingredients baked, packaged and frozen for easy
storage. This is the most convenient method. All you do is thaw, break the
muffin up in your dogs dish and serve. You can also warm the muffins in a
microwave before serving, 10 - 15 seconds on the HIGH setting.
Meatless Muffin:
Includes all ingredients less the meat, baked, packaged and
frozen for easy storage. This method gives you the option of feeding a raw meat
diet, with the comfort of knowing all the nutritional requirements of your dog,
are being met.
Health Food Pre-Mix:
Includes all dry ingredients. You add the meat, vegetables, apple, egg,
oil, and water, and bake. Refer to our
Baking
Instructions below for further information.

How often and how much do I feed my dog?
Adult dogs should be fed
twice per day. Puppies should be fed three times per day, until six months of
age. Simply break up the CANINE LIFE muffin and serve. Muffins should be
kept refrigerated once thawed, and will stay fresh for one week in the fridge. NOTE:
CANINE LIFE
recommends that large breed puppies be switched to our adult hypoallergenic
formulation at six months of age, to help ensure a healthy growth rate.

Use
the above feeding recommendations as a guideline, depending on your dog's energy
level and the amount of exercise they get, they may need more or less food. The
most definitive way to tell if your dog is eating enough is by their stool. To
firm means not enough, and to soft means too much.
The
Skye's The Limit, has created a special formulation for owners, who would like
to feed their dogs a diet of CANINE LIFE meatless muffins, along with raw meat
containing bones, e.g. chicken necks, chicken backs, beef bones, or buffalo
bones.
Guidelines for feeding raw meat. Please note: you must advise us as to whether
you are feeding raw meat with or without bones. One batch of CANINE LIFE
will
make 18 half size, meatless muffins.

cup pureed green beans washed*
-
1/2
cup pureed carrots washed*
-
1 egg
-
1 medium/large sized
red apple pureed, washed, cored*
-
1 - 2 cups distilled or
filtered water
-
8 tablespoons (1/2
cup) organic cold pressed safflower oil
-
1-1/2 pounds ground
chicken - adult dogs
-
2 pounds ground chicken -
puppies
*Pureed means chopped very
fine, i.e. food processor, cuisinart, blender, meat grinder, food grater.
All veggies and proteins are raw when they are mixed in with the other ingredients.
One
pound of meat is the equivalent of 454 grams, so 1-1/2 pounds of meat
equals 681 grams and 2 pounds of meat equals 908 grams.
INSTRUCTIONS:
-
Preheat oven to 350F
(180C) degrees.
-
Lightly grease a 9 x
12 baking pan, or muffin tins. One batch makes 20 squares or 20 regular
sized muffins.
-
Combine all
ingredients in a large bowl, and mix well.
-
Place mixture into 9 x
12 baking pan or muffin tins.
-
Baking Pan: 50 – 60
minutes.
-
Muffin Tins: 25 - 30
minutes.
-
Remove from oven and
cool to room temperature, before storing in an air tight container or
ziplock bags. Refrigerate 2 to 3 days worth of food, and freeze the rest.
***Helpful Tip: fill empty
muffins shells
(that you did not fill
with mix) 3/4
full with water to protect
them from scorching in the oven.
The following can be
used as variations:
Protein:
regular ground beef, chicken, turkey, veal, lamb, ostrich, buffalo,
venison, salmon, tuna or mackerel. Tuna and salmon can be canned or fresh.
If using canned, rinse with water in a strainer to remove any salt that is
added in the can. Use 4 cans (approximately 170 grams each) for tuna, and 3 cans
(approximately 213 grams each) for salmon.
Each batch should
contain 1/2 cup of orange vegetable and 1/2 cup of green vegetable.
Orange vegetables:
carrots, sweet potatoes, Butternut, Acorn, or Hubbard squash, pureed.
Green vegetables:
green beans, zucchini, broccoli, pureed.
Oil:
Canine Life
recommends the use of organic cold pressed oils, including safflower,
sunflower, and canola.
Eggs:
Feed Canine Life for 6 weeks,
using 1 egg. If your dog appears fine after that time, add 1 more egg to
each batch, and monitor your dog for any sign of sensitivity, e.g. itching,
loose stool. If sensitivity is noted, return to 1 egg per batch of
Canine Life.
Cranberry juice:
1/4 cup pure cranberry juice, can be used in place of 1/4 cup water.
Blueberries:
Add 1/2 - 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries to the batch for variety.
Blueberries are an excellent anti-oxidant, and also very tasty.
